Alliance and Leicester See The Budget Giving And Taking For Small Business

Published: 01/10/08

The Alliance and Leicester business banking director commented on the Budget recently, praising some aspects of it but asking for more support in others.

He was pleased to see the setting aside of GBP12.5 million for the support of new female entrepreneurs, feeling it could only be good for the economy to have more inspired business people in the mix. The Alliance and Leicester director was also in favour of the additional funding given to the small business loans guarantee scheme. This is an area he felt would be much appreciated by small business owners looking to maintain and then grow their organisations.

On the negative side though the continuation of fuel duty, with 2 pence per litre being added in October, will be a difficult one to overcome. The Alliance and Leicester see businesses of all sizes, but they are all concerned by the rising fuel costs. As well as giving consumers less money to spend they also mean the costs of transportation increase, leading to a forced price increase on all goods to maintain any profitability.
