Biggest House Price Increases Are In Wales Says Halifax

Published: 05/10/08

Merthyr Tydfil in Wales has been acknowledged by the Halifax as the place in the UK that has had the greatest increase in property prices per square metre in the last 5 years.

The Halifax survey also found that seven out of the top 10 towns listed were in Northern Ireland, with Ballymena and Craigavon heading the list of Northern Irish price gainers. The South East of England has not been left out though, as the highest priced property is in London, the borough of Kensington and Chelsea to be precise.

In fact, when it comes to the most expensive places for property, all of the top 10 are in London, which came as little surprise to the Halifax or to anyone reading this. The most expensive place outside London is in the county of Cheshire, in Altrincham.
