The cost to businesses of St Patricks Day could be as much as GBP27 million according to Abbey National. This is the approximated cost of lost time as employees take a day off following the previous nights celebrations.
Although the Patron Saint of Ireland, St Patrick has been embraced by Britons as they enjoy a pint or two of the black stuff in his name. Of course a little too much celebrating causes hangovers which is where the costs identified by the Abbey National start to add up.
It is no surprise to find that the 18 to 24 year old age group is the one most likely to be missing from work the following day. This is the age group most likely to be out celebrating to start with and also the one most likely to have over-indulged according to the feedback received by the Abbey National researchers.
